High School Fine Arts Competition: September 10-October 10, 2009
For me, the High School Fine Arts Competition was about the extraordinary work done by young ceramicists. Instead of painting our pedestals, I decided to wrap them in large sheets of black fabric. The way the light hits a painted black pedestal creates an additional sheen that reflected on the glazed ceramics creating a disagreeable under-lighting. The solution was to wrap the pedestals, allowing the lighting to soak into the fabric, leaving the ceramics receiving light from the top down, creating a more dramatic shadow effect.
